Recommended needles when using one thread:
Always choose a needle that is slightly larger than for other threads so that the thread does not fray in the eye of the needle.
Embroidery needle 1 or 3, tapestry/chenille needle 18 or 20, Ballpoint Embroidery Needle 3

Soie Ovale™ is made from the base silk: a certain number of silk threads are brought together during the unwinding of the cocoons. It is the oldest known embroidery thread made of silk; twisted silk thread has only been around for about 200 years. “Ovale” is the name for the type of spinning process.

  • Filament silk
  • Filament strands are endless strands and not elastic
  • 1-ply
  • There is also divisible filament silk in China, but our quality is non-strandable
  • Always insert a small backstitch over a fabric thread so that the stitches hold well
  • Very high sheen
  • remains intact even after washing/ironing
  • is further enhanced when the working thread is guided over a Laying Tool with each stitch
  • Thread is relatively rough
  • therefore lies well on the Working Fabric
  • Many people don’t like working with this beautiful thread because it tends to get caught on every little flake of skin and unevenness of the Working Fabric and become unsightly.
But: with the tricks below, even the most unsightly piece of thread will become nice and smooth again.

There are a few little tricks that make processing a little easier:

1

Cellophane paper

Put a drop of non-greasy hand cream (e.g. udder cream) on a cellophane paper
fold together
Spread the cream thinly
Pull the thread through this film
smoothes the thread without making it greasy

2

Palm

Put a drop of cream on the palm of your hand.
Rub it in.
Gently pull the thread through your hand – great for shorter lengths.

3

Japanese method

(Also known as: Forehead shine deluxe 😅 )
Important: Do not wear make-up!
Pull the thread over your forehead several times.
The natural skin oil gently smooths the thread.
