✨About BIZ – from thread to color to your own world
BIZ was fascinated by everything related to textile design from a young age – encouraged by artistic parents and an inspiring handicraft teacher.
Her dream of training as an embroiderer after graduating from high school failed due to a lack of training positions. Looking back, she is almost grateful for it today – at 18, she would probably have found it difficult to cope with the frustration and reality of this profession.
After graduating from high school, she went to Canada as an au pair – an adventure that opened not only the language but also the world to her.
Back in Germany, she went from a reception desk to the hotel industry, and later to a children’s home, where she first combined her textile skills with social work.
A degree in social work was the next step – but not the right one. Instead, many years followed in various service sectors – with each station, the knowledge grew that she now uses for her versatile self-employment.
In her late 20s, she moved to Hamburg – and there, a spontaneous decision set the course: training as a logistics specialist. A decision that proved to be spot on. She had arrived in the world of air freight and international airlines – organizationally strong, fond of travel, curious.
And her heart still belonged to needle and thread…
✈️ Between needles, nerves and reboots
During this time, BIZ was finally convinced, after a long, stubborn NO, that England was also worth a trip.
There she discovered the Royal School of Needlework – and immediately knew: That’s where I want to go!
A three-year training course was unfortunately not possible as a non-English person, but the “Certificated Classes” were open to everyone. So she scraped together all her money, overcame her fear of flying – and flew to London every week for a whole year to study there.
What she didn’t suspect: At the same time, the first Gulf crisis began, which mainly hit Frankfurt Airport hard – and thus also her workplace. “Last in, first out” was the motto four times – each time anew.
In addition, there were health challenges: a chronic pain condition and a complex trauma disorder.
At the beginning of her 40s, it was anything but easy to get back on her feet.
But when the next professional change was due after her training in London, she made a decision:
And looking back, that was the best decision of her life.
“Okay. I’m being really brave now – and doing something that’s not really possible.”
And looking back, that was the best decision of her life.
💡 Since 1995: Creativity with heart and attitude
Since 1995, BIZ has been running her own company with a lot of heart, deep knowledge – and a passion for textile design that is contagious.
What began as a courageous step into the unknown has now become a creative center – colorful, strong, lively.
🌟 Two names. One mission.
Since then, life has by no means been straightforward – but it has become rich:
Rich in joy, in encounters, in colors and in the deep certainty of preserving something very special – the art of hand embroidery.
With the start of her own company in 1995, BIZ made a conscious decision:
From now on, she would use both of her first names –
Bärbel, the seeker, the stranger, the traveler.
And Ingeborg, the preserver, the guardian, the rooted.
